Foodsoft monthly community call

Sorry, I forgot about the last call and also have to concentrate on a different project (also food coop software) so I can’t really work on Foodsoft right now …

I’d be free on Nov 6th, would be interesting to hear from @steffen and his team.

Would work for me! :+1:

We want to meet for the open Discussions on 21.11 andor 28.11 10-13 CET

Today’s notes: Community call meeting notes - #4 by yksflip

To be more precise, these are work sessions to think through and make decisions on various open discussions regarding the new unit system: foodcoops/foodsoft · Discussions · GitHub
These are non-technical issues, like, what term for “delivery unit” would be most intuitive? How should the order PDF sent to the supplier look like?

We need more opinions than from us 2-3 developers, so feel free to join! (ideally, read/think through the discussions before)

  • 2025-11-21T09:00:00Z2025-11-21T12:00:00Z
  • and perhaps [date-range from=2025-11-28T10:00:00 to=2025-11-28T13:00:00

In the usual Jitsi Call: https://meet.ffmuc.net/foodsoftmeetup

Thanks for the notes.

Due to work I was unable to join, unfortunately.

Family reasons have interfered with finishing the patches for 4.x but I hope to be able to work on that soon.

How do I read the proposed times? Is that from 10:00 to 13:00 (CET for me)?

Do you also want (power) user to join, if possible? I can ask around if people from the two large Amsterdam foodcoops are able to join, although the timing may be difficult for most.

@Jerry zie boven

Yes :+1:

I’m all for it. Not too many, but more perspectives would be great. Please link the discussions so they can ideally read/think them through beforehand. Of course, they are also welcome to write their opinion esp. if they can’t make it to the session.

We haven’t had a “Foodsoft monthly community call” for a while now. I think we should do one soon. Our usual time for this is Thursday, 5pm and that would be okay-ish for me. But I decided to put it up for vote as I’d actually prefer Fridays (on Thursdays I always have to leave early): https://www.termino.gv.at/meet/p/59595252e2cca0af3e064dfca3273179-539596

Good point

I am also in favor of Friday, btw, as that conflicts a lot less with work.

On Fridays I’m usually only free up to 12:30.

On Fridays I’m usually only free up to 12:30.

Okay, I now added a morning option to the poll and for the sake of simplicity deleted both your votes, so you can now cast them again, @RayO @twothreenine . Sorry for the hassle.

I assume there is no day chosen at this point as we are missing @yksflip and @steffen ?

Yeah, to be honest, I’d prefer a bigger round of developers. Unless there’s something you want to discuss with us two…?

I guess all we can do is wait until everyone has more time on their hands again. :person_shrugging:
(Let me know, if it’s just the dates offered in this poll that aren’t working for you - I can add more options of course.)

heyyy,

sorry for the late reply. I won’t have the time/energy to be actively involved at the moment and the near future. I haven’t been very active in the last months so I think it’s best if you go on without involving me. Thanks for all your work and efforts!

Hey @yksflip :waving_hand:

sorry for the late reply. I won’t have the time/energy to be actively involved at the moment […]

No worries, obviously it’s in the nature of voluntary work that you can’t expect everyone to be available at all times!

[…] and the near future. I haven’t been very active in the last months so I think it’s best if you go on without involving me.

What do consider “the near future”. Thing is, in terms of seasoned developers everything’s gotten very quiet in the repo all of a sudden (I can’t tell why :person_shrugging: ) - it’s not just you!

For a short period that’s normal, but if this goes on for much longer, the only way forward would be for me to decide, implement and merge everything by myself.

I’d like to avoid that for obvious reasons, but if there’s no help in sight, then it’s probably still better than letting all that work we’ve done so far go to waste - what do you think…?

@steffen Suggested a new meetup date (which works for me):

2026-02-12T16:00:00Z

Please heart this message, if you think you can make it too!

I may…. (depending on work schedule)

We meet in the usual Jitsi Call: https://meet.ffmuc.net/foodsoftmeetup

Hey Foodsoft monthly community call,
sadly none of you developers with rails experience here have been actively working on the items blocking the 5.0 release (that is reviewing PRs, answering discussions, implementing/fixing issues, partaking in the community calls,…) for months :worried: .
I really want to make 5.0 happen, so I see no other way forward than making all those decisions on my own and merging without (human) review.

If any of you object, please speak up now! (I can still abort this plan and in the case of any already merged PRs, I can try to revert, if there aren’t too many conflicts.)

I hope this state is only temporary and we can soon return to our inspiring collaboration! :crossed_fingers:

Also it would probably make sense to create a public post looking for support from other developers - what do you think?

Hi @lentschi ,

Currently I am a bit pressed for time as my day job (Amsterdam Public Transport) is part of the time a night job (testing new metro security systems on physical rails :metro: ).
On top of that I am only a novice Rails programmer so don’t feel too comfortable to say much about it with authority.

I have been setting up a new system to also start looking into the v5 state of things but haven’t actively looked at PR’s. If there are specific PR’s you want feedback on, let me know, though.

I still want to finish Mollie first, also on v5, and even that is difficult to find time for.

As for reaching out to others: I think that is wise to do. Looking at the many things carchrae has done on his fork, it may be sensible to approach him directly if he would be interested in more direct involvement? Just a thought.

Cheers

Referring to your request about a call here:

I would like to discuss the issue in a video conference. Giving up wiki.js and transferring the content to vitepress is a big issue with many open questions for me.

Is there a regular meeting where we can do it or shall we set up a separate meeting just for this issue?

Yes there is this meeting

We haven’t set a date for the next one, but since there sadly hasn’t been a whole lot of activity lately, maybe you want to set up the next meeting, in which we could discuss documentation…? (E.g. just share a date poll here, with dates that work for you.)
